It depends on what car u got independant rear or solid axle. One thing I think everyone can agree on is suspension first. If u bought a car of course u shud fix what's broke basic tune up on the motor plugs wires cap etc especially if they were all from 91 like my car was. After that ppl say different things, lsd, coilovers, links etc. Of course some cars have stock diffs so learn on that and freshin up the rest of the suspension like shocks maybe springs especiaily if they're stock like my car from 91. Then go out and learn practice makes perfect. If the car has open diff get it tig welded asap "drifting" on an open is more like power sliding honestly one tire is always gonna be sliding not powering over breaking loose ull just be a one tire fire. So just weld it. Then do the shocks if they're blown replace any leaky or broken bushings brakes if they're bad tie rods etc and go practice.
Here's the route I took, I bought my car second day I had it new fuel filter plugs cap and rotor. Then I replaced the 18yr old wires having gotten shocked a few months later

then I sold the lame 18in chrome wheels it came with rocked the stockers bought me a clutch limited slip differential one tire fire isn't an option. LSD or welded SHUD ur first mod AFTER fixing whatever is worn or broken on the car IMO there's no glory in one wheel peels. Then just go out and practice parking lots just don't get caught start out in the rain it won't wear the tires hardly learning when the car rotates past it center and how it reacts to ur input is where wud say u cud start or just go to a drift event and practice legally.
